Home : News : October 15, 2013 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dr. DiDomenico lectures at international conference BOARDMAN, Ohio (October 15, 2013) – Dr. Lawrence A. DiDomenico, managing partner of Ankle & Foot Care Centers, was invited to lecture at an orthopedic international foot surgeon’s conference Sept. 13-14. The event, the 20th Lubecker Seminar for practice in foot surgery, was held in Lubeck, Germany. Dr. DiDomenico spoke on Diabetic limb salvage, Charcot joint arthropathy and the Lapidus bunionectomy. The Lapidus bunionectomy is a procedure used to treat bunions, one of the most common sources of foot pain. Bunions occur when the big toe angles in toward the other toes, causing enlargement of the metatarsophalangeal joint. Restrictive shoes, arthritis and constant pressure inside the joint cause pain for bunion sufferers and may necessitate corrective surgery. The goal of Lapidus bunionectomy is to move the metatarsal bone back to its original place on the foot. The procedure realigns the metatarsal joint at the mid-foot. “This is the best, long term procedure out there for patients with bunions, said Dr. DiDomenico, who has been performing this procedure his entire career. “More recently with the latest technology, the procedure does not involve entering the joint and there are many benefits with this treatment.” These benefits include better range of motion, less pain, quicker recovery time, limited stiffness, a smaller incision and early weight bearing. “We take pride in the fact that one of our physicians was invited to share his expertise in this global forum,” said Michael Vallas, practice administrator. “Dr. DiDomenico has been a pioneer of this technique while performing the Lapidus procedure and we are pleased to offer access to such cutting-edge ankle and foot care to people in the Mahoning Valley.” Ankle & Foot Care Centers is the region's largest podiatric care provider, with physicians and surgeons serving patients at 18 local offices, located in Alliance, Austintown, Boardman (2), Campbell, Champion, Columbiana, East Liverpool, East Palestine, Greenville (Pa.), Lake Milton, Liberty, Niles, Poland, Salem, Struthers, Warren and Youngstown.
